Calls to the model embedding-2-preview on Gemini API stopped working on August 10, 2026.

Google retired model embedding-2-preview on August 10, 2026. Calls to model embedding-2-preview fail since that date. The retirement affects all requests targeting this specific model on generativelanguage.googleapis.com.

## The error Gemini API returns once embedding-2-preview is gone

Once it is closed to new API keys: HTTP 404

## What to use instead

Migrate to gemini-embedding-2, which is recommended by Google. Moving takes more than changing an identifier, as embeddings from another model are not comparable and stored vectors must all be computed again with the new model.
