# POST /api/v1/accounts is deprecated

Mastodon API deprecated POST /api/v1/accounts without giving a shutdown date yet.

The POST /api/v1/accounts endpoint is deprecated without a shutdown date. It was deprecated in favor of the OAuth sign-up flow in version 5.0.0. Requests using this endpoint are slated to fail upon eventual removal.

## What to use instead

Send users through the OAuth sign-up flow via GET /oauth/authorize instead of registering accounts by API. Moving sign-up into the OAuth flow requires updating the application onboarding process rather than simply changing an endpoint call.
