# POST /api/0.6/user/messages/{} is deprecated

OpenStreetMap API deprecated POST /api/0.6/user/messages/{id} without giving a shutdown date yet.

OpenStreetMap API deprecated POST /api/0.6/user/messages/{id} without a shutdown date. This deprecation affects requests made to the POST /api/0.6/user/messages/{id} endpoint, which was formerly used to update the read status of a message. Once removed, calls using this endpoint fail.

## What to use instead

Update a message's read status with PUT /api/0.6/user/messages/{id} instead.

- API: OpenStreetMap API (api.openstreetmap.org)
- Kind: Endpoint removal
- Takes effect: no date given yet
- Calls after that day: fail
- Calls it hits: `POST /api/0.6/user/messages/{id}`
- Source: [Announcement](https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/API_v0.6)
- Verified: November 6, 2026, against OpenStreetMap API's own pages

## OpenStreetMap API's words

> PUT /api/0.6/user/messages/#id was added to update read status of a message and its POST equivalent was deprecated.
